Existence Beyond Reality
by John Wilkinson
John Wilkinson was an active young man, an iron worker who loved motorcycles and travelling, when he was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) at the age of 23. As the disease progressed he decided to let a machine breathe for him, knowing that he would otherwise die within a short time.
Twenty years later, now able to move only one finger and one toe (and enough facial muscles to smile) John typed the manuscript for this book using a clapper device, Morse code and his computer.
It’s a book that describes his zest for life and how he continues to cope with circumstances which others cannot imagine.
Stephen Hawking, himself a survivor of ALS, said of John’s book and situation: ‘I know how he feels.’
